Dubbed “The Legend @ 85,” University of Cagayan Valley President Dr. Victor V. Perez celebrated his 85th birthday with Family, Friends, Employees, Students, and Alumni last April 20, 2016 at the Greyhounds Gym, UCV Balzain Campus Tuguegarao City.

The celebration began with a breakfast serenade or a 'mananita' held by members of the administration at the home of Dr. Perez.

Among more than 500 guests included Senatorial bet Dante V. Liban (Dr. Perez’ cousin), Dr. Manny Mamba, City Mayor Jeff Soriano, former Mayor Delfin Ting, Dr. Ronald Guzman, former CHED Region II Director Dr. Evelyn Pascua, Alay Dance Troupe Alumni, and other friends and acquaintances in the field of academics, politics, and business.

The event bore a vintage motif and featured song and dance numbers by employees, students, and alumni of the university with each performance aligning to themes spanning from the 50’s through 2016.

Each decade showcased historical events in the country juxtaposed with the growth of the academe with Dr. Perez at the helm. The realization of the university status of what was then Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao (CCT) is considered by many to be among the highlights of his career. In an investiture program last 2010, Dr. Perez was installed as the first university president.

Mrs. Leilani Perez-Mallin, Dr. Perez’ eldest daughter recounted her memories with her father and gave a toast for the achievements of the birthday celebrant.

For Dr. Susan Perez-Mari, also his daughter, she has this to say about the celebrant: “…Papa is our Papa as he is a father to everyone at UCV…” She adds, “…Papa, just like Lolo Maty [founder], strongly believes in education without boundaries. That education is all about changing lives, building futures, and making dreams come true…”
