Norlu head Quer Brinn Urbina, a BSEd English Major from the School of Liberal Arts and Teacher Education (SLATE) stood fourth place in the Poetry competition during the 15th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) of the Association of Luzonwide Tertiary Press Advisers Association (ALTPA) last Feb. 4-6, 2016 at Hotel Felicidad, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) sponsored event was attended by over 900 students and advisers engaged in higher education campus journalism – delegates came from across the country namely Cebu, Cordillera, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, and NCR.

The poetry competition was based on the concept of composing a lover’s poem centered on the sights and sounds of Vigan City.

“’Yung nasa isip ko lang noon yung birthday ng anak ko” [What I had in mind was my child’s birthday] says the Editor in Chief, referring to his four-year-old daughter Kyrie Hermionie whose birthday was around the corner during the competition.

While Urbina was unable to land as champ, he says that it was a step forward for the student publication whose performance have lagged in previous years. “It has been about two years since [a Norlu Editor] won in the nationals” Urbina said.
